New Delhi:

Priyanka Chopra has proved on several occasions recently that she is not afraid to call a spade a spade. The actress, in her recent interviews, has spoken about issues such as equal pay, gender disparity, bullying in Bollywood, marriage, and motherhood. In a similar vein, the actress in a new interview withThe Zoe Report, has spoken about working with actors who had “diva moments” on set. The Citadel star made the statement when asked about her experience on the sets of Love Again. She said, “It’s so good to work with actors that come in, know their lines, and are not divas.” When asked if she had been at the receiving end of such diva behaviour, she added, “Oh, yeah. I can’t tell you who. But I’ve had co-stars that stopped filming for three hours because they need stuff explained [to them] on a production day — not the night before — while the crew is standing around. Or have diva moments or arrive hours late while everyone’s waiting around. I’ve had that happen with a lot of male actors my whole life.”

In the same interview, the actress also spoke of an incident that forced her to walk out of a Bollywood movie after shooting for it for two days. Explaining that the incident occurred in 2002-03, when she had just about begun her career, Priyanka Chopra shared that a director said that he wanted to see her in underwear in a scene. “This may have been 2002 or ’03…I’m undercover, I’m seducing the guy — obviously that’s what girls do when they’re undercover. But I’m seducing the guy and you have to take off one piece of clothing [at a time]. I wanted to layer up. The filmmaker was like, ‘No, I need to see her underwear. Otherwise, why is anybody coming to watch this movie?’” she said about the incident.

Adding that it was a “dehumanising moment,” Priyanka Chopra explained, “He didn’t say it to me. He said it to the stylist in front of me. It was such a dehumanizing moment. It was a feeling of, ‘I’m nothing else outside of how I can be used, my art is not important, what I contribute is not important… I just couldn’t look at him every day.” She walked out of the movie and at her father’s insistence paid back the production for what they’d spent.

Priyanka Chopra’s fairly startling revelations about Bollywood began in March when she told Dax Shepard on his podcast that her move to Hollywood was prompted by the fact that she was “being pushed into a corner in Bollywood” and that she had “beef with people” which affected her work.

Priyanka Chopra will make her Bollywood comeback with Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif in Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa.
