By Chingkheinganbi Mayengbam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi late on Saturday retweeted videos shared by superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar on the new Parliament building. Videos were shared by several celebrities and political leaders after PM Modi’s “special request”.
PM Modi had on May 26 shared a video offering a glimpse of the new Parliament building. The video didn’t have any commentary or background music. “I have a special request – share this video with your own voice-over, which conveys your thoughts. I will re-Tweet some of them,” PM Modi said.
The video that Shah Rukh Khan tweeted with his voice-over had a score from his movie Swades.
Shah Rukh Khan captioned the video, “A new Parliament building for a New India but with the age-old dream of glory for India,” to which PM Modi replied, “Beautifully expressed!”
PM Modi also retweeted the video that was shared by Akshay Kumar with his voice-over.
Akshay Kumar called the new Parliament building “an iconic symbol of India’s growth story”. PM Modi agreed with the Bollywood actor and said the building reflects the nation’s rich heritage.
PM Modi’s retweets came hours before he is set to inaugurate the new Parliament building on Sunday in a grand ceremony. The ceremony is being boycotted by over 20 opposition parties, including the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), AAP, Trinamool Congress (TMC), and the Janata Dal (United).
The video, which is now being shared with voice-overs by actors and politicians, was first shared by PM Modi on May 26. He asked people to share the video with their own voice-over and said he would re-tweet some of them.
Other than retweeting the videos shared by Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, the prime minister also retweeted the thoughts on the new Parliament building shared by celebrities and political leaders, including actor Anupam Kher, Speaker Om Birla and Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
PM Modi shared Anupam Kher’s video on the new Parliament building that praised it in verses and said, “This is the feeling expressed in your poem, which is going to strengthen the faith of people in the temple of democracy.”
The prime minister also replied to superstar Rajinikanth who applauded his decision to install the historic Sengol in the new Parliament building. The Sengol was used in 1947 to symbolise the transfer of power from the British to Indians.
Rajinikanth thanked PM Modi and said he made Tamilians proud.
PM Modi replied to Rajinikanth saying it was “a pleasure” to see the culture of Tamil Nadu taking a “place of pride” in the new Parliament building.
On Saturday, the eve of the inauguration ceremony, Adheenam seers handed over the Sengol to PM Modi. The Sengol will be installed in the Lok Sabha chamber of the new Parliament building by PM Modi on May 28.
Security has been beefed up around the new Parliament building ahead of its inauguration. Over 70 police personnel have been deployed in and around the area, Delhi Police Special CP Deepender Pathak said.
